Here is what I tell my
beginning guitar
students about buying new equipment...
Even if you have a billion
dollars, you should not purchase a Gibson Les Paul or a Fender Deluxe
Stratocaster. There is nothing worse then seeing some guy who can
barely play guitar own some amazingly expensive and beautiful guitar.
In my opinion, you have to earn the right to own and play a top notch
instrument. For beginners, I recommend a Rogue RA-100 acoustic guitar.
If you work hard and make progress, then you deserve a Fender Mexican Strat. At this point, we can purchase additional equipment only by
playing certain songs perfectly. For example, if you learn "Johnny B
Goode" by Chuck Berry then maybe Santa Claus should put a Digitech RP 500
pedal board underneath the Christmas tree. Then if you learn a Jimi
Hendrix song like "Purple Haze", "Foxy Lady" etc... then you are definitely
ready for a new guitar or amp. Basically, the piece of equipment
becomes a trophy of sorts.
